PRODUCT INFORMATION
It is an asphalt mixture that is prepared by mixing the crushed and sieved coarse aggregate and the fine aggregate with a maximum size of 13 or 20 mm, filler and the discontinuously graded gradation limits of the modified bitumen binder in a plant at a certain temperature and is laid on the top layer of the superstructure in contact with the vehicle wheels.
SMA mixtures are mixtures containing 70-80% coarse aggregate, 20-30% fine aggregate and 6-7% highly modified bitumen. The aggregate skeleton being composed of coarse gravel causes more gaps to form between the aggregate particles. These gaps are filled with fine aggregate called mastic mortar, filler, modified bitumen and fiber that prevents the bitumen from flowing. Asphalt mixing temperature is in the range of 160-180°C.
USAGE AREAS
SMA type coatings are preferred on roads with heavy vehicle traffic. They have a life expectancy of 20% to 40% longer than conventional asphalt pavements. SMA Coatings;
- Are applied for High strength and resistance to deformation,
- Better structural resistance,
- Resistance to slipping,
- Reducing water splashing of vehicles,
- Absorbing sound,
- Reducing the formation of rutting.
The laying-compaction temperature is 10 to 20°C higher than conventional asphalt. During the compaction process, vibration is not applied in order not to disturb the aggregate skeleton and to prevent the mastic mortar from rising to the surface. In addition, rubber-tyred rollers are used because it has a kneading effect on asphalt and significantly reduces surface roughness.
Unlike the maintenance and repair of traditional asphalt, there is no need for an extra maintenance and repair.
It does not have properties that can harm nature when applied correctly. Safety precautions must be followed.
